How to scan a barcode

  • Tap the plate in the middle of the placemat on Home.
  • Choose BARCODE and hold the stripes in the frame. Yumizo scans on its own, no button needed.
  • Check the serving, change it if you ate more or less, and save.

Where the numbers come from

Barcodes are looked up in our own copy of OpenNutrition, a public food database. When a barcode isn’t there, our servers ask Open Food Facts, and only the barcode number is sent. Both databases are shared under the Open Database License. Our food data page explains how we clean them.

A label is a manufacturer’s figure, and recipes change, so check the serving size against the packet in your hand.

When a barcode isn’t found

Scan the nutrition label instead, and the AI reads it for you; a label scan counts as one of the free plan’s 2 AI logs a day. Or add the food yourself from its label. It’s saved to My foods, so next time it’s one tap.

For everything without a barcode

A home-cooked dinner has no stripes. Count it from a photo or say what you ate, and it lands in the same diary. Start on the Yumizo calorie counter home page.
