AI photo calorie counter

Count calories from a photo

Yes, an app can count calories from a photo. In Yumizo, you snap your plate and the AI names each food, estimates the portion and works out the calories. The numbers are estimates, so you can change any portion or calorie count before you save. The free plan includes 2 AI logs a day.

How it works

Three steps, and your pet is there for each of them.

  • Tap the plate in the middle of the placemat and photograph your meal, the whole plate in frame.
  • Your pet looks at the photo with you while the AI spots each food and estimates how much is there.
  • Check the foods and portions, change anything that’s off, and save the meal to your diary.

How accurate is it?

A photo estimate is a good start, not a lab result. The AI can’t see the oil in the pan, the sauce under the rice or the sugar in a drink, and portions are hard to judge from above. That’s why every number in Yumizo stays editable, and why a thumbs up or down under each result tells us how it did.

For anything in a packet, the free barcode scanner or a nutrition label scan is more exact than a photo.

Nutrition labels, too

Switch the camera to LABEL and point it straight at a nutrition label, and Yumizo reads it for you. A label scan counts as one of the day’s AI logs, the same as a meal photo.

More than a camera

Some meals are easier to say than to photograph. Log food by saying it, scan a barcode, or search and type. Everything lands in the same diary, next to the pet who eats with you. See all of it on the Yumizo home page.

Questions, answered.

Can an app count calories from a picture of food?
Yes. Yumizo’s AI looks at a photo of your meal, names the foods, estimates each portion and works out the calories. It is an estimate, so you can change the portion or the calories before or after you save.
Is photo calorie counting free in Yumizo?
Yumizo is free to download and start. The free plan includes 2 AI logs a day, and a meal photo is one AI log; a photo where the AI finds no food doesn’t count. Barcode scanning and food search are unlimited for everyday use.
How accurate are AI photo calorie estimates?
They are estimates and can be off, especially for mixed dishes, sauces, cooking oils, drinks and anything the camera can’t see. Check the portions before you save, and scan the barcode or the nutrition label for packaged food.
What happens to my meal photos?
Nothing is sent to the AI until you allow it in the app. Your photo is saved with the meal in your diary so you can see it later, and deleting your account deletes all your photos.
